Printing is always an act of transformation. One gathers or makes material, prepares it for insertion into a program for the layout of a book, and outputs a file that is then translated into either ink that goes onto paper, electrons that show up on a screen, or both. Multiple transitions are necessary in digital and paper printing. Liisa Ambur, Anne-Sofie Overgaard, and Sandra Strēle make a number of additional transitions with the material they include in their section looking at the intersections of how a single image transforms through the processes of drawing, weaving, photographing, re-photographing on digital devices, and so forth.
